Many Recognised Training Organisations (RTOs) in QLD and NSW like Major Training offer a Test and Tag Course so you can start legally testing and tagging electrical equipment.

This program is available in Brisbane, on the Gold Coast, and on the Sunshine Coast, just to name a few.

After completing the course, you’ll need to apply for a restricted electrical licence at the Electrical Safety Office (ESO); that is if you’re going to offer test and tag as a service to others. If you’re only testing and tagging personal equipment or in your own workplace, there’s no need to get a restricted electrical licence.

Simply put, if you plan to test and tag equipment owned by anyone with a different ABN to yours, you’ll need to apply for this additional licence.

However, electrical repair work and certain electrical tasks remain restricted to appropriately licensed electrical workers.

How Often Does Equipment Need to Be Tested?

There’s no single test and tag interval that applies to every workplace. As mentioned above, high-risk worksites are mandated to perform testing and tagging every 3 months.
