At Major Training, we’re proud to celebrate the achievements of our people, both in and out of the workplace. This past weekend, our very own Abi Gardiner, Field Officer based in our Cairns office, joined 190 riders to take part in the QSuper Cardiac Challenge, riding 333km from Cairns to Cooktown in support of The Hospital Foundation.
About the QSuper Cardiac Challenge
The QSuper Cardiac Challenge is a 333km cycling journey through the stunning landscapes of Far North Queensland. Over three incredible days, riders conquer winding roads, lush rainforests and rolling hills, all in the name of better cardiac care for the community.
This iconic event isn’t just a physical challenge. It’s a powerful fundraising effort that supports the purchase of life-saving equipment and services for cardiac care throughout Far North Queensland. Whether seasoned cyclists or first-time riders, participants experience a rewarding combination of fitness, friendship and community spirit.
In 2026, the QSuper Cardiac Challenge will celebrate its 20th Anniversary, marking two decades of making a real difference. You can learn more about the event here.
Riding for a Cause
Abi and her team, the Cairns Birdwings, raised just over $18,000, contributing to the incredible $250,000 total raised across the event. These funds will ensure families living in remote FNQ have access to vital cardiac treatment closer to home, without the stress and financial burden of long-distance travel.
Leading from the Front
Abi took on the role of Pack Leader, guiding and supporting 27 riders across the three-day event and making sure everyone reached each destination safely. The conditions tested every rider’s endurance. On day two, searing heat pushed roadside temperatures over 40°C. On day three, punishing headwinds pushed back against the riders.
Across the challenge, Abi and her group clocked up 2,479 metres of elevation gain as they worked through rolling hills, tough climbs and mountain sections before finally reaching Cooktown.
Making a Difference
Reflecting on the experience, Abi shared her gratitude:
“Thank you for helping me make a small difference to those living in remote areas of FNQ, to ensure they can receive vital cardiac care without the stress and financial burden of travelling away from home.”
At Major Training, we’re inspired by Abi’s commitment, not only to her community but to leading and supporting others in achieving their goals. Her achievement is a reminder of the power of teamwork, resilience and giving back.
Congratulations Abi, from all of us at Major Training!
