Warehouses build up because floor space runs out, but storage height and staff competency don’t automatically rise together.
For Queensland manufacturer TRHC, the challenge was straightforward, high-bay racking held machines and spare parts well above the floor, but not every staff member held a formal work safely at heights ticket to reach it.
To close that gap, TRHC accessed Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) funding, which contributes up to $300 towards short courses, putting five staff through RIIWHS204E Working Safely at Heights training.

What Major Training did
Five TRHC personnel completed RIIWHS204E Working Safely at Heights training in a single day, accrediting staff to access storage that was placed high on the company’s racking system.
Outcomes
All five personnel now hold verified work safely at heights competency.
For TRHC, that means confidence the right people are certified for warehouse and manufacturing tasks that were already part of their day-to-day work, with the OHS obligations that come with it now formally met.
Corporate Services Manager Kath Brady said TRHC staff valued the opportunity to learn a new skill and achieve competency.
“Knowing personnel now hold the required competencies for the training provided and understanding the OHS implications of that work has greatly benefitted the business.”

About the MSQ funded short courses program
Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) is an independent body established and funded by the Queensland Government to build a sustainably skilled manufacturing workforce.
Through its Funded Short Courses program, MSQ subsidises up to $300 per course for eligible small to medium Queensland manufacturing businesses, covering high-priority licences such as forklift operation, working at heights, confined spaces, dogging, rigging, and elevating work platforms.
Courses are delivered by approved providers, including Major Training, across multiple Queensland locations.
Eligible businesses employ fewer than 200 people, and participants must be permanent Queensland residents and Australian citizens or permanent residents, with one subsidy available per employee.
Full details are available at msq.org.au/programs/funded-short-courses.
