The Certificate III in Electrotechnology course gives aspiring electricians the industry knowledge and technical skills to become competent professionals in the electrical industry.
We’re a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which means we’re a legal provider of quality electrical training. We can also help you accomplish your long-term career plans in the electrotechnology industry. Our Sunshine Coast electrical apprenticeship is a mix of theoretical learning and hands-on experience, supported by our immersive training facility and specialised equipment.
An electrical apprenticeship is a reliable pathway to becoming a qualified electrician. You’ll need to be employed either part-time or full-time with a suitable company, preferably in construction or electrotechnology, to be eligible to enrol. Electrical apprenticeships on the Sunshine Coast are also open to those changing careers or simply expanding on their current skill set.
Course Details
The Certificate III in Electrotechnology qualification meets the requirements to apply for an electrical licence and pursue a career as a qualified electrician.
The electrical apprenticeship combines classroom learning (to gain a thorough understanding of basic and advanced electrical concepts) and practical training (for tasks like installing wiring systems, connecting electrical control circuits, and managing electrical equipment issues).
For the duration of the course, you’ll develop core skills in testing, fault finding, designing and constructing electrical systems, testing and connecting alternating current, repairs, and maintenance. Your studies will also focus on health and safety principles relating to electrical systems, ensuring you understand the importance of safe work practices in the industry.
The Sunshine Coast electrical apprenticeship lasts 4 years. During this time, you’ll undertake paid work as an apprentice electrician and complete units up to 1,110 weighting points across the 4 years.
If you’re under 25, you can take advantage of funded courses through the Career Start Funding program, which reduces your upfront costs. Or if you’re in school, this course qualifies as a school-based apprenticeship, meaning you can complete it in high school on the Sunshine Coast.

To enrol in our electrical apprenticeship on the Sunshine Coast, you must:
- Have passed Year 10 English, Maths, and Science
- Normal colour vision as electricians work with colour-coded wiring (non-negotiable safety requirement regulated under Queensland’s Electrical Safety Act 2002)
- The right to work in Australia
- At least 21 to qualify as a mature-age apprentice
- Must be employed full-time or part-time and have access to a workplace
- Not a formal entry requirement, but a strong analytical and problem-solving ability is a practical advantage

Delivery options
Electrical apprenticeships are available from our Sunshine Coast training location, with additional options across Queensland and NSW. Whether you’re local or based elsewhere, you can access quality training with support throughout your apprenticeship.
An apprenticeship combines paid work with structured training, allowing individuals to gain a nationally recognised qualification while gaining practical, on-the-job experience. A Training Contract between the apprentice and employer must be in place for the apprenticeship to proceed.
Training Locations
In addition to our facility on the Sunshine Coast, we also have training sites in Yatala, Morayfield, Cairns and Newcastle for apprentices to attend a short 2-week Block Training.
