Is refresher training worth it for tradies?
Absolutely. Refresher training keeps your licences and certifications current, stay on top of evolving WHS legislation, sharpen skills that may have gone rusty, and demonstrate to employers that you take safety (and your job) seriously. In high-risk trades, up-to-date knowledge can make a real difference on site and to your career prospects.
How much does refresher training cost?
Costs vary depending on the type of training you require, but refresher courses are generally a lot cheaper than the initial training. Short refresher courses such as working at heights or EWP are typically a few hundred bucks. Refresher training is a modest investment compared to the cost of an expired licence or a workplace incident.
When do I need to complete refresher training?
It depends on the licence or certification. HRW licences such as EWP, crane, and forklift must be renewed every five years, while First Aid certificates require renewal every three years and CPR annually. Some certifications, like a White Card, don’t expire, but refresher training is still recommended if you’ve been out of the industry for a while.
How long does refresher training take?
Most refresher courses only take 1 day to complete. They’re designed to be quick and convenient, and some refresher training sessions only take a few hours. Longer or more complex licence renewals may require additional time, but you can contact us at any time if you’re unsure of the commitments required.
Can my employer pay for refresher training?
Yes. Where refresher training is required to meet WHS obligations or maintain a licence that is essential to your role, employers have a strong incentive (and in some cases a legal responsibility) to support the cost. It’s always worth having the conversation with your employer before you start a refresher course, particularly for trade-specific licence renewals.
