Nationally Recognised Training Logo

OVERVIEW

A White Card, also known as a general construction induction card, is required for workers carrying out construction work. The requirement isn’t limited to construction workers. Site managers, supervisors, labourers, and tradespeople are required to hold a White Card if they access active construction sites.

The good thing is that this qualification is straightforward to obtain. You simply need to complete the Work Health & Safety (WHS) general construction induction training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Major Training delivers the nationally recognised unit of competency CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry. As it should be, our White Card course complies with WHS’s regulations, providing comprehensive training and a Statement of Attainment upon successful completion.

For Gold Coast-based individuals who are looking to join the construction industry, completing a White Card training is the first step to kickstarting your career. At Major, we make it simple and efficient from the get-go, so learners are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to operate on construction worksites. Our program covers basic construction concepts, relevant government bodies, and personal protective equipment (PPE)—everything you need to know to get certified.

Course Details

The Gold Coast White Card course combines theoretical learning and real-world applications to prepare you for safe work on construction sites. The core skills you’ll develop through this training include identifying common workplace hazards, following WHS procedures, and meeting the required induction requirements for the construction industry. The steps are really easy. Simply enrol in a 1-day course with Major Training and receive your White Card upon completion.

After completing the course, you’re good to go. No waiting, just instant access to the qualification you need. With a White Card, you can legally work on construction sites across the Gold Coast, opening doors to a wide range of entry-level and specialised roles.

Since the Gold Coast is currently experiencing one of the largest infrastructure and construction booms in its history, a White Card is especially valuable in the region. In fact, the City of Gold Coast recently reported over $23 billion in major projects underway, with 75 active construction cranes across the skyline. Transport infrastructure in the region is also on the rise, with major ongoing projects like the Coomera Connector Stage 1, the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail, and the Gold Coast Light Rail expansions.

The Gold Coast’s public transport network upgrades are part of broader efforts to prepare for the 2032 Games. Simply put, these projects and transport upgrades are creating plenty of job opportunities where a White Card on the Gold Coast can come in handy.

White Card (Gold Coast) Career Pathways

A White Card is the entry requirement for working on construction sites across the Gold Coast, the first step when joining the industry. Once you’ve obtained your qualification, you can apply for a range of roles in construction, civil infrastructure, demolition, landscaping, and site labour. In addition, it can also help you get additional qualifications for high-risk work licences, allowing you to build your skills and access even more career opportunities.

The Gold Coast’s development boom has established the region as a hub for construction job opportunities. Major infrastructure projects like the Light Rail Stage 3 extension and the transformative Coomera Connector highway are driving strong demand for skilled workers all year round. Below are potential roles associated with a White Card:

Possible Roles

Construction Worker: Construction workers need a White Card to access construction sites. Having this certification demonstrates that you can understand basic site safety expectations and is prepared to work responsibly in high-risk environments. The construction industry on the Gold Coast is particularly a major employer given the ongoing residential developments, commercial projects, infrastructure upgrades, and tourism-related construction.

Labourer: The list of manual tasks on construction sites seems endless, which is why labourers are always in high demand. As employers only consider candidates who are certified, training to obtain a White Card is essential if you’re looking to get started in this role. As infrastructure upgrades, road improvements, and commercial developments continue across the region, labourers remain in high demand.

Heavy Equipment Operator: Heavy equipment operators are responsible for handling the big guns (think excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and cranes on construction sites). A White Card is required before entering site environments, ensuring operators understand basic workplace safety practices and hazard awareness.

Tradesperson: The White Card requirement isn’t limited to construction workers. Tradespeople like carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, and other contractors also need one to work on construction sites and carry out their duties safely and legally. Gold Coast's growing population has led to increased residential and commercial development, property maintenance needs, and infrastructure investment. Naturally, this creates demand for skilled tradespeople across a variety of industries.

Site Supervisor: Site supervisors manage teams and help maintain a safe environment. A White Card is a must-have to ensure they perform their roles efficiently. Workplace safety practices are also something they need to know inside out.

Architect or Engineer: Architects and engineers are responsible for designing, planning, and coordinating construction projects from the ground up. While they typically work in offices during the design phase, they often visit active construction sites to inspect progress, collaborate with contractors, and ensure the project is up to speed. A White Card is required for these visits so they can move around worksites safely.

Potential wages could be in the region of $60,000 and upwards per year.

Delivery Options

Major Training’s White Card course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to navigate a construction site efficiently, knowing they’re familiar with everything safety-related. The course is suitable for anyone planning to enter the construction industry or who needs access to active worksites as part of their job.

Awesome!! After coming from TAFE the training is so much better.
Awesome!! After coming from TAFE the training is so much better. Smaller classes better and more knowledgeable teachers who care about the students and more flexible learning (being able to do most of the work from home). TAFE felt like it was just there to keep apprentices there for as long as possible (spending 8 hours to do 2 hours of work) but here it’s all based around the student, come in for the morning to to finish up units then go back to work for the rest of the day.

I recently completed my Certificate III (online) through Major Training Group, and I had a wonderful experience.

My educator, Cathy Fendley, was absolutely fabulous. We had agreed-upon sessions once a week (and sometimes twice a week when needed), and she was always supportive, organised, and encouraging. Cathy helped me tremendously, especially with my case studies, making sure I fully understood the requirements and felt confident in my work.

She also went above and beyond by helping me find a placement closer to my location, which made a big difference for me. During my placement, she visited and gave me such a great morale boost — her support truly meant a lot.

I’m very grateful to have had Cathy as my teacher. She is a wonderful educator and a genuinely caring person. Highly recommend Major Training Group!

I had a fantastic experience with Major Training. Katrina was my trainer for both my EWP and Forklift courses, and she was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable, patient, and supportive. She explains everything clearly and makes sure everyone feels confident and safe.
I also want to mention Thane. Even though he wasn’t my trainer, he was very friendly and always willing to help.
Great team, professional training, and a very welcoming environment. Highly recommended definitely more than 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Highly recommend this RTO! The trainers are extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and always happy to help whenever you need support. They genuinely care about your learning and make sure you understand the material, not just pass the course.

They also create a great environment with things like regular BBQs, which makes it a welcoming and supportive place to study. It’s clear they put real effort into looking after their students and building a strong community.

If you’re considering training here, you won’t regret it.

Highly recommend Major training. I cannot express how much it was a pleasure to be educated and trained by my highly experienced assessor CARL BERRY for helping me complete my C6 Crane ticket. It's alot of theory work and alot of maths and also practical about the Crane as I've had no experience. Carl Berry gave not just me but the other pupils in the classroom the time and the patience to help us to complete and accomplish this course. I'm not gonna lie it is very hard but with the right training studying and perseverance it was all well worth it. Thank you so much Carl for all your hard work and keep it mate. I really do appreciate what you have done for me. And last but not least thank you Major training for having me as a student at your facility.

I can't recommend Paul from Major Training highly enough! He was an incredible instructor who supported me every step of the way in obtaining my HR licence. After failing my first test due to nerves, I was feeling pretty discouraged. However, Paul’s patience, understanding, and encouragement made all the difference.

He took the time to go over everything thoroughly, helping me rebuild my confidence and fine-tune my skills. His calm demeanor helped ease my anxiety. Thanks to Paul’s support, I was able to pass my test.

Thank you Paul, I appreciate the help to better my life!
