OVERVIEW
Major Training is a Registered Training Organisation qualified to assess and deliver comprehensive training for the Cert 3 in Electrotechnology. This core electrical apprenticeship course is designed to cover a broad range of electrical concepts and practicals to help you build your career as an electrical worker.
Who is this course for? Students, young people, career starters, career switchers, and anyone who wants to become an electrician or work with electricity. You can apply at any age, so no, 25 and over is not too late to become an electrician.
What are the entry requirements? There are no requirements for this electrical apprenticeship, but you must be employed part-time or full-time and provide evidence of previous study. You can complete the course at one of our training bases in Queensland and northern NSW, or we can come to you at your local job site.
Course Details
In the Certificate III in Electrotechnology and electrical apprenticeship, you’ll learn a variety of basic and advanced electrical concepts, such as installing wiring systems, connecting electrical control circuits, problem-solving with electrical equipment, and building low-voltage electrical circuits.
You’ll be prepared for a career as a licensed electrician with essential skills like testing, fault finding, repairing, maintenance, and health and safety related to electrical systems.
The course takes place across 4 years, during which time you’ll undertake paid work as an apprentice electrician and learn all the vital skills while working.
What skills will you learn in this course?
- Connecting and disconnecting low-voltage lighting circuits and heating equipment
- Solving problems in single-path circuits and multiple-path circuits
- Learning about environmentally and sustainable procedures
- Understanding correct health and safety regulations
- Working with low-voltage electrical installations and utilities industry components
- Designing, building, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems
- Testing and connecting alternating current
- Working with magnetic and electromagnetic devices
- Developing and verifying discrete control programs
You’ll complete units up to 1,110 weighting points across 48 months, giving you a complete understanding of general electrical installations and low-voltage heating equipment.
Career Start Program – Free Apprenticeships for under 25’s Initiative
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program you must:
- Be aged under 25 years prior to entering into a training contract (commencing or recommencing) for this qualification.
- Are currently employed as a Queensland apprentice (under a registered training contract) in an eligible apprenticeshipqualification through this Program, such as this qualification.
- Be no longer enrolled at school.
- Commence or recommence this apprenticeship between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2027.
- Not currently be enrolled in a qualification.
- Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships within a 10-year period.

An apprenticeship combines paid work with structured training, allowing individuals to gain a nationally recognised qualification while gaining practical, on-the-job experience. A Training Contract between the apprentice and employer must be in place for the apprenticeship to proceed.
Training Locations
We have Training Sites in Yatala, Morayfield, Cairns and Newcastle for apprentices to attend short 2 week Block Training.
