Course Details
A Backhoe Ticket is a nationally recognised unit of competency that’ll give you the skills to operate a backhoe on a construction or building site. Having a backhoe ticket will qualify you for jobs in transport, mining, and agriculture.

ENTRY Requirements
This course is suitable for students who are currently employed or seeking employment in the construction industry.
To enrol in the backhoe course, students must:
- Be able to read and write basic English
- Pass a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment (LLN)
- Be mechanically minded with an interest in operating heavy machinery
- Be a minimum of 16 years of age
- Provide two forms of identification
- Wear steel-capped or safety boots on site. Sun protection is also recommended (hat, long sleeves, and pants).
Backhoe Ticket
A Backhoe ticket grants individuals the expertise to safely operate backhoes—a versatile type of heavy equipment that combines a front-end loader and a rear-mounted digging arm. Possessing a Backhoe ticket signifies competence in handling excavation, digging, and loading tasks efficiently while adhering to safety protocols. This qualification opens doors to a range of roles within construction, civil engineering, and related industries.

Course Details
Three-Day Backhoe Course
Duration: 2 days training, 1 day assessment
Time: 6.30am to 3pm
This course is an intensive professional backhoe operator training program based on competency and delivered in a controlled environment at Major Training’s high-quality simulated worksites.
The course offers:
- Everything you need to earn your backhoe ticket from start to finish
- Three days of intense, competency-based training and assessment delivered by our knowledgeable team
- Intensive theoretical and practical training conducted in our classroom facilities over two days. The theory will be presented through videos, live demonstrations, and clear instructions by experienced trainers.
- One day of practical assessment at our facility where you will operate a backhoe
- A practical skills logbook for you to record your experiences during the course
- Courses run Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday from 6:30 am until 3.00 pm.
Students are trained to a level suitable to achieve all elements of the backhoe competency. We offer exceptional trainers and assessors and quality training materials, including a logbook, training plan, full assessment, training manual, and heavy machinery for you to operate.

Awesome!! After coming from TAFE the training is so much better. Smaller classes better and more knowledgeable teachers who care about the students and more flexible learning (being able to do most of the work from home). TAFE felt like it was just there to keep apprentices there for as long as possible (spending 8 hours to do 2 hours of work) but here it’s all based around the student, come in for the morning to to finish up units then go back to work for the rest of the day.
