WHAT'S INCLUDED IN Our Electrotechnology Courses

Our courses span introductory qualifications to practical apprenticeships to technical certifications (like the Certificate III in Electrotechnology). Each gives you the sought-after skills and knowledge required for a career as an electrician or engineer in various sectors.

In our electrotechnology courses in Queensland and NSW, you'll learn how to design, build, repair, and maintain electrical systems. You'll develop skills and knowledge in key electrical concepts like:

  • Low-voltage electrical circuits
  • Environmentally and sustainable procedures
  • Magnetic and electromagnetic devices
  • Power conversion equipment
  • Multiple path circuits
  • Electricity and renewable energy
  • Basic and advanced operating conditions

National qualifications like the Cert II in Electrotechnology give you thorough training, while specialised short courses help you hone your skills and catapult you to the top of your career. You'll gain hands-on electrical experience and learn essential electrotechnology theory, all with funding available.

For example, the Certificate II in Electrotechnology helps you enter the electrical industry and perform tasks in both residential and commercial settings. Meanwhile, the Test and Tag short course qualifies you to test electrical equipment safely - a critical skill for electricians, engineers, designers, and site managers across Australia.

Electrotechnology COURSE FAQS

What is electrotechnology?

Electrotechnology essentially involves working with electricity. This could be in lots of capacities – for example, repairing faults or utilities industry components in electrical control circuits. Your work can include designing and building general electrical installations or fixing and maintaining them. Anyone looking to work with electricity must have a recognised electrotechnology qualification, like the ones offered by Major Training.

What can I do with electrotechnology qualifications?

Electrotechnology career pathways include working in the electrical, energy, renewables, mining, oil, gas, engineering, construction, robotics, telecommunications, and automation sectors. You might choose to become a residential or commercial electrician or work as a technician for an air conditioning company. Students and early-career professionals who complete electrotechnology qualifications can get promoted more quickly and earn more money.

Are electrotechnology courses worth it?

Yes, completing an electrotechnology course will help you get promoted and earn more money. It’s also a great way to successfully apply for jobs, as you can show employers you are skilled and qualified for more technical, higher-risk responsibilities. Queensland and NSW need people with electrotechnology qualifications, and there’s a booming job market out there for electricians.

How much do electrotechnology courses cost?

Major Training provides in-depth electrotechnology courses, accessible for students, young people, early-career professionals, and career-switchers. Course costs vary (some are shorter and therefore cheaper, while others are more extensive). Electrotechnology certificates can cost several hundred dollars, but industry funding options are available.

How are the courses taught?

Major Training offers a blend of online and in-person training. Our purpose-built facilities are located across QLD and NSW, or we can come to you and train you on-site at your job. You’ll receive practical training from experienced industry experts, plus access to study materials and course handbooks that cover everything from industry standards and legalities to safety regulations and rules for handling electrical equipment.
