Why Study Scaffolding Courses

Scaffolding is essential for construction, renovations, demolitions, and installing electrical systems. But only workers with scaffolding training and qualifications are allowed to put up and take down scaffolding in Queensland.

Getting yourself certified through one of our scaffolding courses will help you get more work and be paid more thanks to your qualifications. It’ll mean you can take on more contractor jobs and broaden the scope of your work.

  • Nationally recognised training – we’re a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which means we are one of the few places that provide legal and nationally accredited scaffolding training.
  • Range of scaffolding qualifications – You can get your Cert 3 in Scaffolding, advanced scaffolding licence, riggers licence, construction white card, and even specialist training for working at heights.
  • Private training available – we also work with companies and contractors across Queensland and NSW to provide private training at your job site.

Career Pathways for Scaffolding Courses

Scaffolding is a specialist qualification, but the careers you can do with it aren’t limited. In fact, a scaffolding course helps you work on construction sites, in stadiums, with event planning companies, on industrial plants, and in management positions. Combining scaffolding courses with other construction or machine operator courses gives your skills an extra boost.

Possible Roles

Scaffolder: The most direct pathway. Completing a scaffolding course is a legal requirement for scaffolders, and it’ll often provide straightforward access to a job at the end of your qualification. You’ll immediately put into practice what you learn.

Scaffolding Supervisor: Coupled with experience, scaffolding courses can lead to supervisor roles. You’ll oversee a team of scaffolders and ensure everything is erected, dismantled, maintained, and inspected according to strict safety requirements and WHS regulations.

Construction Site Manager: Similarly, earning construction experience alongside your scaffolding certifications can open up management opportunities on construction sites, plants, projects, and other locations that require scaffolding setups.

Business Owner/Contractor: You can even start your own scaffolding contracting business. You’ll be responsible for scaffolding operations, plus all the management and operational tasks that come with running a business, from hiring to quoting to budgeting.

Rigger: Scaffolding and rigging courses go hand in hand, as the best riggers help set up and manage scaffolding on construction sites. They’re also responsible for securing the platforms and machinery that lift heavy cargo and materials.

Events Manager: Most events companies use scaffolding to run their events, especially for concerts and stadiums. Scaffolding training opens the door to progress to events manager roles or other positions within the entertainment industry.

Potential Wages Could Be In The Region Of $60,000 To $100,000 Per Year

Scaffolding Courses FAQS

How much is a scaffolding course?

Scaffolding course costs vary, as some are short courses that only take a few days, while others are months-long apprenticeships. A short scaffolding course can be between $500 and $2,500 for up to a week of training, while apprenticeships can cost a few thousand bucks. Funding is available for scaffolding courses in QLD from initiatives like Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ), and we also offer flexible payment plans to pay in instalments.

How long is a scaffolding course?

Scaffolding short courses typically last a few days of in-person training, plus several hours of online study. For instance, our basic scaffolding licence course in Queensland lasts 5 days, and it’s the same duration for the intermediate and advanced scaffolder licence courses. However, to become a fully licensed scaffolder, you’ll need to combine theory training with practical experience, which can take around 3 years.

What qualifications are needed for scaffolding?

To legally erect and dismantle scaffolding in Queensland, you’ll need the proper scaffolding qualifications. This means you’ll need to have completed at least basic training in scaffolding, which lets you prepare, plan, and inspect basic scaffolding constructions and use a safety harness. For more complex tasks, like hung scaffolding, you’ll need an advanced qualification.

Do scaffolders make good money in QLD?

Yes, scaffolders are paid well because of their unique and specialised qualifications. As a scaffolder, you’ll be responsible for safely and legally erecting scaffolding for either your team or others to carry out construction or installation work. Qualified scaffolders in QLD typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 per year.

How hard is scaffolding to learn?

Scaffolding is technical and has a high level of responsibility, but with the right training from an RTO like Major Training, you can become a fully qualified scaffolder in 2-3 years. With previous construction training and qualifications, you may only need to upskill with a short course, which takes 5 days to complete.
