Why Train Dogging and Rigging Together
A dogging licence gets you directing crane movements and slinging loads. A rigging licence takes you further, setting up the gear, including steel structures and hoisting equipment, that makes those lifts possible in the first place. On-site, the two roles run in sequence: the rigger sets and checks the load, then the dogman directs the crane operator through the lift, so most crews that need one ticket also need the other close by.
Who does this bundle suit? Anyone moving from construction work into dogging and rigging work, crane crews who need both tickets to run a full lifting team, and employers upskilling a small crew without booking two separate intakes.
For a student, the dogging and rigging bundle changes what one enrolment gets you. Instead of finishing your dogging licence and then waiting on a second intake to add basic rigging, you leave with both tickets from the same block of training. A worker who holds only a dogging ticket can direct lifts someone else has rigged, while a worker who holds both can set up the gear and run the lift, opening up roles you would otherwise need a second course to reach.
For an employer, cross-training a small crew on both tickets instead of booking two separate courses for every worker means fewer gaps to cover and less time lost to staggered training dates. A crew where the same people can rig and dog a load gives you more flexibility to move workers between tasks on site, rather than waiting on whoever holds the one ticket a job needs that day.
Booking the bundle also means one set of dates instead of chasing two separate course calendars. You sit both practical assessments in the same block, working with the same trainers, on the same site.
Want to progress after rigging? Explore our scaffolding certifications, which overlap with site logistics and rigging work and are a common next step for crews building toward intermediate and advanced tickets.
