Why Train Both Haul Truck Classes
Rigid haul trucks and articulated haul trucks steer, load, and handle differently enough that most sites treat them as separate tickets rather than assuming one covers the other. Mine sites and large civil projects often run both types depending on the terrain and the load, so an operator ticketed on only one machine class is limited to whatever units happen to be free. Both tickets sit inside our Plant Operator range, and this is one of the more direct ways to cover a site’s whole haul truck fleet in a single program.
Who does this bundle suit? Operators wanting flexibility across a site’s full haul truck fleet, and employers who want crew members able to move between rigid and articulated units rather than matching people to machines by ticket.
Operators holding only one haul truck ticket will get less work and less control over what they do, so earning two haul truck licences increases job opportunities and pay. Employers also benefit, as they get a crew that can move between rigid and articulated units, giving them more flexibility to match people to the work on the day, rather than being short-staffed on one machine class while an operator qualified only on the other sits idle waiting for the right unit to free up.
Training runs 2 to 3 days, with both machine classes covered inside one program rather than as two separate bookings.
Other essential training for truck operators includes the Construction Induction Card (White Card), which most mine and large civil sites also require, alongside a haul truck ticket. Many remote and mine sites also list a current First Aid certificate as a standing site requirement, separate from either haul truck ticket, so it is worth confirming that alongside your training plan if you have not already got one, rather than finding out about the gap once you are already booked in.
