Upon successful completion of the Licence to Operate A Forklift Truck (TLILIC0003), you’ll be qualified to safely operate a forklift in the workplace anywhere in Australia after applying with WHS for your licence. This forklift licence is valid for 5 years.

Course Details
The Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck (TLILIC0003) is a nationally recognised qualification that allows you to operate a forklift anywhere in Australia. Major Training delivers both formal training and formal assessment to ensure every applicant gains the knowledge required to operate safely.
During forklift training, you will learn how to:
- Plan forklift operations and prepare the workplace
- Conduct routine safety checks before use
- Shift loads safely and efficiently
- Secure equipment at the end of a shift
- Follow work health and safety procedures
- Understand obligations under high risk work licence laws
This particular course includes a combination of theory and practical assessment. The accredited assessor will determine competency through the assessment conducted, and successful applicants will receive a statement of attainment. This allows you to apply for your queensland hrw licence or relevant hrw licence depending on your licence class.
Training is delivered across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. We also offer workplace training, where we deliver sessions directly at your site for added convenience.

Entry Requirements
- Be able to read and write basic English (Workplace Health and Safety requirement)
- Pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN)
- Minimum 18 years of age (Workplace Health and Safety requirement)

- Wear steel-capped or safety boots on site; sun protection Hat, long-sleeved shirt, and pants – are also recommended
These requirements ensure all applicants can lawfully perform work and safely attend training in line with work health and high risk regulations.
High-risk work Licences
- High risk work licences have a 5-year life span. After this period, the licence will need to be renewed. This can be done via the WHS Queensland website.
- If your high risk work licence has expired, you’re not classified as a licenced operator until it’s renewed.
- You have up to 12 months to renew your high risk licence. If it’s past the 12-month period, you’ll be required to re-sit the written and practical exam.
- A VOC cannot be done on an expired licence.
How To Apply For a High Risk Work Licence
- You have 60 days from successfully completing your practical assessment to apply with WorkSafe QLD for your high risk work licence.

Course Details
FULL FORKLIFT TRAINING & ASSESSMENT COURSE
Duration: 3 days at Morayfield, Yatala & Dinmore*
Duration: 2 days at Virginia*
Time: 6.30am to 3pm
Suitable for: This course is the perfect choice if you don’t yet have formal experience in operating a Forklift and are looking at gaining employment or starting a new career. This course will teach you everything you need to know from start to finish and is delivered in person over 3 days by our knowledgeable team.
- Both the formal and informal requirements of the training are completed in a controlled environment at your site
- Everything you need from start to finish
- 25-hours of high quality training over 2*/3 days delivered by our knowledgeable team.
- Course runs from Monday to Wednesday every week & we occasionally a Wednesday to Friday course
- Students are trained to a competency level suitable to achieve all elements of the assessment
- Assessments are on Wednesdays
- *Dinmore start at 830 and run over Monday, Tuesday and assessment day is on Thursday.
- *Virginia – All theory paperwork is done on our LMS by the student prior to coming on on day one. This is intenstive course & course work needs to be be completed prior to first day of training.
FORMAL FORKLIFT TRAINING & ASSESSMENT COURSE
Duration: 1-1 ½ days formal training, 1 day practical training & up to 6 months log book on the job and 1 day of assessment
Time: 6.30am to 3pm
Suitable for: Suitable for existing workers requiring a SOA / Forklift Licence to enter the workforce and that can complete the mandatory informal training on the job at their current employment
- Employer involvement and licenced operator required to supervise
- All requirements of the training are completed in a controlled environment at Major Training Group’s high-quality simulated worksites throughout QLD and your employers workplace
- 1-1 ½ days formal training, 1-day practical training, and up to 6 months logbook on the job
- Formal training is completed at a Major Training site
- Forklift formal training is on the first day of the course with assessment once the logbook is completed
- Employers must agree and fill in all relevant areas of the students logbook
- Students must log hours and detail of relevant tasks performed at their workplace
- Student log book must be signed off by employer or employer’s representative with the relevant OHS licence
- A completed log book with an employer’s letter validating the log is required
- Students have up to 6 months to complete
Experienced Operators Course
Duration: 2 days
Time: 6.30am to 3pm
Suitable for: Operators with demonstrated previous experience. Applicants are required to provide evidence of prior experience for enrolment in this course, which may include an expired licence. This can be a more economical option for already skilled people.
- Students must demonstrate previous experience
- Cheaper and quicker 2-day course
- Monday start and assess on Wednesday or Wednesday start and assess on Friday pending scheduled courses
- Evidence of previous experience required (e.g. old logbooks, training plans, interstate or expired tickets)
