Why the C6 Slewing Crane and Dogging Tickets Go Together
A 60T slewing crane handles heavier, more complex lifts than a non-slewing or vehicle loading crane, and those lifts need someone qualified to sling and direct them. Operators stepping up from a lower-capacity ticket often already work alongside a dogger every day, so adding the dogging licence to the same enrolment closes a gap most people only notice once they are already on the bigger crane.
Who does this bundle suit? Operators progressing from a non-slewing or vehicle loading crane ticket into slewing crane work, and crews who want a member capable of running the C6 crane and directing its own lifts.
Construction workers who operate up to a 60T slewing crane without a dogman licence are qualified to run the machine but still dependent on someone else for every lift. The dogging and rigging component is an essential part of crane operations, logistics, construction, and engineering, so training it alongside the C6 licence ensures you’re a very valuable worker in Queensland.
Operators who can run the C6 crane and direct the lift themselves are worth more on jobs where a dedicated dogger is not always available. This gives employers more flexibility to move that person between sites without matching them to a second crew member every time.
This bundle, like our other crane and dogging pairings, sits under the High Risk Work Licence umbrella, where operators stepping up a crane class and adding dogging tend to book at the same time. Both courses run within the same enrolment, so the C6 licence and the dogging ticket are trained on one set of dates, not two, with both practical assessments completed in the same block.
Already thinking further ahead? Our Slewing Crane Licence C1, rated up to 100 tonnes, is the next step up for C6 operators who go on to work major lifting projects at the top of the crane range.
