OVERVIEW
Major Training provides excellent dogging training in Brisbane that gives you the knowledge and skills to work safely around cranes and hoists. Course Details
Major Training’s Dogman or Dogging ticket is a nationally recognised qualification that will get you ready for a range of crane operator roles. Once trained, you’ll receive your Dogman ticket, allowing you to apply for your high-risk work (HRW) licence and work on construction projects.
Our extensive Brisbane dogman course includes five days of formal classes, covering all the necessary theoretical knowledge along with supervised logbook training for up to 40 hours. The goal is for learners to gain practical experience under expert guidance.
With increasingly large-scale construction developments in Brisbane, including preparations for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, your Dogman licence will prove extra useful across the city.
Other major projects in Brisbane where a Dogman ticket is likely to be valuable include:
- Victoria Park Precinct – A multi-billion dollar redevelopment transforming Brisbane’s central parklands into the primary hub for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It features a brand-new 63,000-seat stadium and the National Aquatic Centre.
- Brisbane Metro Expansion – A major transit infrastructure initiative extending mass transit network corridors north to Carseldine, south to Springwood, east to Capalaba, and directly to the Brisbane Airport.
- Coomera Connector – Another massive multi-stage highway project creating a new 45-kilometre high-speed corridor between Logan and the Gold Coast to significantly reduce heavy congestion on the Pacific Motorway.

Dogmen are responsible for preparing loads for lifting operations and communicating with crane operators to make sure loads are moved safely and with precision. FULL DOGMAN TRAINING & ASSESSMENT
Duration: 5 days
Time: 6:30am to 3pm
Who is this course for: This course is suitable for those with little or no formal Dogging experience who are looking to gain employment or start a new career. Delivered in person over five days, the course covers everything you need to know from start to finish.
- The formal and informal requirements of the training are completed in a controlled environment at Major Training’s simulated worksites
- Everything you need from start to finish
- 40-hour competency-based training over 5 days delivered by our knowledgeable team or theory online with 3 days practical and gap training, 1 day assessment
- Courses start Mondays
- Assessments are on Fridays
FORMAL DOGMAN ASSESSMENT & TRAINING COURSE
Duration: 1-2 days formal training, 1 day practical training & up to 6 months log book on the job and one day of assessment
Who is this course for: Suitable for existing workers requiring a SOA / Dogging Licence to enter the workforce and that can complete the mandatory informal training on the job at their current employment
- Employer involvement and licenced operator required to supervise
- All requirements of the training are completed in a controlled environment at Major Training Group’s high quality simulated worksites throughout QLD and your employers workplace
- Informal training – Up to 40 hours supervised log book training is completed on the job in the workplace
- Formal training is completed at a Major Training site
- Dogging formal training is on the first day of the course with assessment once the logbook is completed
- Employers must agree and fill in all relevant areas of the students logbook
- Students must log hours and detail of relevant tasks performed at their workplace
- Student log book must be signed off by employer or employer’s representative with the relevant OHS licence
- A completed log book with an employer’s letter validating the log is required
- Students have up to 6 months to complete
EXPERIENCED OPERATOR COURSE
Duration: 2 days
Who is this course for: Operators with demonstrated previous experience. Applicants are required to provide evidence to enrol in this course, which may include an expired licence. This is a practical option for those who aren’t entirely new to Dogging.
- For experienced and competent operators on completion of formal training
- Students must log hours and details of relevant tasks performed at their workplace
- Student logbook must be signed off by employer with the relevant WHS licence
- A final skills assessment is conducted when the employer is happy with the skill and knowledge level of the student
- Assessment includes a closed book theory test and a comprehensive practical test
