Why Study HVAC

HVAC technicians need proper training to do their jobs safely and legally in Australia. Our courses help you learn fundamental skills related to HVAC work in Queensland. We offer high-quality foundational HVAC training taught by industry experts.

Here’s why you should study HVAC training with Major:

  • High earnings potential – HVAC technicians, electricians, and maintenance engineers can command high wages in Queensland, since the state is suffering from a skills shortage of qualified HVAC engineers.
  • In-demand skill set – HVAC skills are sought-after across Queensland, from the residential suburbs of Brisbane to the huge industrial ports and warehouses across the Gold Coast. With the right skills, you can even set up your business.
  • Nationally accredited training – We’re a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which means our experts are vetted to deliver nationally recognised HVAC training.
  • Private training available – If you can’t attend one of our training locations in Queensland and NSW, our experts can come to you and train at your workplace.

Career Pathways for HVAC Courses

HVAC courses teach heating, ventilation, and air conditioning concepts and skills. Getting quality HVAC training means you’ll be prepared for work in sectors like construction, electrotechnology, engineering, and renewable energy. Jobs range from electrical apprentices to senior HVAC technicians and upper management roles.

Possible Roles

Electrical Apprentice: This is a great entry-level role for people interested in HVAC, as you can get on-the-job training while being paid. Check out the Certificate III in Electrotechnology as one example of an apprenticeship pathway within HVAC.

Residential Electrician: This role involves servicing households and residents, managing their electrical systems and devices. It means responding to call-outs, fixing urgent breakages, installing lighting, and maintaining wiring (among other duties).

HVAC Technician: A direct pathway from HVAC courses is to become a HVAC technician. You’ll be installing and servicing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential and commercial premises.

Refrigeration Mechanic: Specialising in refrigeration opens the door to exciting work across supermarkets, retailers, cold storage facilities, food processing plants, and the resources sector. Refrigeration mechanics install and maintain commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, and these specialist skills are well-compensated and highly sought after in Queensland and NSW.

Building Services Engineer: Take your HVAC career in a more technical direction by becoming a building services engineer. You’ll design and oversee the mechanical systems within large buildings, working closely with construction workers and architects to complete large-scale projects.

HVAC Contractor: With the right licences and experience (plus a bit of entrepreneurial spirit), you can run your own HVAC contracting business. The demand for installation and servicing work is consistent year-round, meaning it’s a very achievable goal in Queensland.

Potential Wages Could Be In The Region Of $80,000 To $140,000 Per Year

HVAC FAQS

Which course is best for HVAC?

There’s no single “best” course for HVAC training, as it depends on your career goals and your previous experience. If you’re just starting out, the best HVAC course is a foundational one like confined spaces training or an apprenticeship. But if you’re already established as an HVAC technician but want to go solo and start your own business, you would be better off completing a Qualified Business Person course or a Diploma of Business.

What’s the fastest way to get HVAC certified in QLD?

Complete a level 2 certificate (the most basic level) to enter the HVAC world. From there, do an apprenticeship along with other foundational courses to become fully certified in HVAC and earn work as a qualified professional in QLD. You can then complete specialist short courses like your restricted electrical licence (REL) to get certified in other areas of HVAC.

What’s the highest-paid HVAC job in Australia?

A lot of HVAC jobs are high-paying, such as industrial electricians, electrical contractors, refrigeration mechanics, and HVAC supervisors. But the highest-paying roles in Australia are those in upper management, such as senior electricians, head of operations, and HVAC business owners.
