OVERVIEW

This restricted electrical licence course gives you the skills and knowledge needed to perform routine electrical tasks as part of your everyday work. Who is this course suitable for? This course is offered to eligible tradespersons who are employed but not currently an apprentice and are required to undertake electrical work as part of their daily duties. This could involve disconnecting and reconnecting electrical equipment connected to low-voltage installation wiring and locating and repairing faults on electrical systems within the scope of their associated trade.

  • Composite equipment service person
  • Fitter and turner
  • Gas fitter
  • Instrumentation/process control technician
  • Laboratory and scientific electrical equipment technician

  • Details of any previous work licences
  • Relevant qualifications and competencies

Applicants must demonstrate competency in the area they are working and with the relevant equipment, which may include qualifications such as a Certificate III or IV in relevant trades. Your statement of attainment from Major Training will demonstrate your competency.

Restricted electrical (REL) course

A restricted electrical licence is a qualification that allows individuals to perform specific electrical tasks within a limited scope under the supervision of a fully licensed electrician. This licence provides the necessary skills and knowledge to handle electrical work safely and competently within the designated field.

Holding a restricted electrical licence demonstrates expertise in carrying out electrical tasks while adhering to regulatory guidelines and safety standards. Obtaining a restricted electrical licence requires specific competency training from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) like Major Training.

Possible Roles

Appliance Repair Technician: Restricted Electrical Licence holders can specialise in repairing specific electrical appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, or other household devices, ensuring safe and effective repairs under supervision.

Data and Communication Installer: With a Restricted Electrical Licence, you can assist in installing data and communication cabling, network infrastructure, and telecommunication equipment, contributing to effective connectivity.

Automotive Electrical Technician: Individuals with a Restricted Electrical Licence can work on automotive electrical systems, performing tasks such as installing car audio systems, lighting, and electrical accessories.

Solar PV System Installer: Individuals with a Restricted Electrical Licence can work under the guidance of a licensed electrician to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, connecting solar panels and inverters to electrical systems.

Security System Installer: Licence holders can work on security system installations, setting up alarms, surveillance cameras, and access control systems under supervision.

Industrial Equipment Maintenance: In industrial settings, Restricted Electrical Licence holders can assist with maintenance and repairs of specific electrical equipment and machinery.

Potential wages could be in the region of $80,000 to $100,000 per year

Awesome!! After coming from TAFE the training is so much better.
Awesome!! After coming from TAFE the training is so much better. Smaller classes better and more knowledgeable teachers who care about the students and more flexible learning (being able to do most of the work from home). TAFE felt like it was just there to keep apprentices there for as long as possible (spending 8 hours to do 2 hours of work) but here it’s all based around the student, come in for the morning to to finish up units then go back to work for the rest of the day.

I recently completed my Certificate III (online) through Major Training Group, and I had a wonderful experience.

My educator, Cathy Fendley, was absolutely fabulous. We had agreed-upon sessions once a week (and sometimes twice a week when needed), and she was always supportive, organised, and encouraging. Cathy helped me tremendously, especially with my case studies, making sure I fully understood the requirements and felt confident in my work.

She also went above and beyond by helping me find a placement closer to my location, which made a big difference for me. During my placement, she visited and gave me such a great morale boost — her support truly meant a lot.

I’m very grateful to have had Cathy as my teacher. She is a wonderful educator and a genuinely caring person. Highly recommend Major Training Group!

I had a fantastic experience with Major Training. Katrina was my trainer for both my EWP and Forklift courses, and she was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable, patient, and supportive. She explains everything clearly and makes sure everyone feels confident and safe.
I also want to mention Thane. Even though he wasn’t my trainer, he was very friendly and always willing to help.
Great team, professional training, and a very welcoming environment. Highly recommended definitely more than 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Highly recommend this RTO! The trainers are extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and always happy to help whenever you need support. They genuinely care about your learning and make sure you understand the material, not just pass the course.

They also create a great environment with things like regular BBQs, which makes it a welcoming and supportive place to study. It’s clear they put real effort into looking after their students and building a strong community.

If you’re considering training here, you won’t regret it.

Highly recommend Major training. I cannot express how much it was a pleasure to be educated and trained by my highly experienced assessor CARL BERRY for helping me complete my C6 Crane ticket. It's alot of theory work and alot of maths and also practical about the Crane as I've had no experience. Carl Berry gave not just me but the other pupils in the classroom the time and the patience to help us to complete and accomplish this course. I'm not gonna lie it is very hard but with the right training studying and perseverance it was all well worth it. Thank you so much Carl for all your hard work and keep it mate. I really do appreciate what you have done for me. And last but not least thank you Major training for having me as a student at your facility.

I can't recommend Paul from Major Training highly enough! He was an incredible instructor who supported me every step of the way in obtaining my HR licence. After failing my first test due to nerves, I was feeling pretty discouraged. However, Paul’s patience, understanding, and encouragement made all the difference.

He took the time to go over everything thoroughly, helping me rebuild my confidence and fine-tune my skills. His calm demeanor helped ease my anxiety. Thanks to Paul’s support, I was able to pass my test.

Thank you Paul, I appreciate the help to better my life!
