OVERVIEW
Who is this course suitable for? This course is offered to eligible tradespersons that are required to undertake electrical work restricted to disconnect/reconnect and locating and repairing faults on electrical systems within the scope of their associated trade.
Some eligible trades for a restricted electrical licence include:
- Composite equipment service person
- Fitter and turner
- Gas fitter
- Instrumentation/process control technician
- Laboratory and scientific electrical equipment technician
- Mechanical fitter
- Plumber and drainer
- Refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment service person
- Telecommunication technician
Course Details
On successful completion of the course, you will be issued with a statement of attainment for the units that have been completed. Students who do not complete the course in full will be issued a statement of attainment for the units of competency achieved.
After you are deemed competent and issued an SOA, you must apply through the Electrical Safety Office for your Restricted Electrical Licence. Depending on your skill set, you will be able to disconnect and reconnect, attach cords and plugs, and locate and rectify appliances such as domestic and commercial electrical appliances, or electrical appliances used in your trade.

Students must apply for a training permit before being enrolled in the course which can be obtained from the Electrical Safety Office.
Restricted electrical (REL) course
A Restricted Electrical Licence is a qualification that allows individuals to perform specific electrical tasks within a limited scope under the supervision of a fully licensed electrician. This licence provides the necessary skills and knowledge to handle electrical work safely and competently within the designated field. Holding a Restricted Electrical Licence demonstrates expertise in carrying out electrical tasks while adhering to regulatory guidelines and safety standards.

Potential wages could be in the region of $80,000 to $100,000 per year

Course Details
Restricted Electrical Licence
When: Once a month from Monday to Friday
Duration: 12-16 hours of online training PLUS five-day face-to-face training to undertake at a Major site (Cairns or Morayfield). IMPORTANT: The online assessment must be completed prior to attending training, failure to complete it in time will result in cancellation of enrolment.
Delivery: Blended learning, online theory with face-to-face practical and assessment.
*CSQ funding may be available pending eligibility criteria.
