OVERVIEW

If you’re required to inspect, test, and tag equipment in your workplace, Major Training’s test and tag training course is the perfect program. What we offer is a nationally recognised, comprehensive, condensed training course. With it, you can learn to legally test and tag electrical equipment, including electrical cord-connected equipment and portable electrical appliances, in accordance with workplace safety regulations and procedures.

Who is this course for? Electricians (commercial and residential), heating engineers, safety technicians, construction workers, and maintenance workers who live and work in Brisbane are the perfect candidates for this test and tag course.

Since the Electrical Safety Act requires employers in Queensland to test and tag electrical equipment on a regular basis, test and tag training is a crucial requirement among professionals across multiple industries, including construction, mining and energy, oil and gas, electrotechnology, and civil construction. In just 8-10 hours of online training, plus one day face-to-face (or two days in person if you haven’t previously completed the UEECD0007 unit), you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment, significantly expanding your technical capacities and qualifications.

Course Details

Major Training’s test and tag course presents learning materials and concepts. They are covered in the following nationally recognised units:

  • UEERL0003: Conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord-connected equipment and cord assemblies
  • UEECD0007: Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace

The test and tag course will set you up with the following skills:

  • Perform testing on portable electrical equipment using a portable appliance tester
  • Adhere to workplace procedures for hazard identification and risk control
  • Carry out on-site inspections and implement safe working procedures
  • Complete proper risk assessment documentation to meet Australian Standard AS3760 while following electrical safety regulations
  • Conduct safety testing of electrical cord-connected equipment and cord assemblies
  • Tag electrical equipment, finalise documentation, and ensure workplace procedures in compliance with the law
  • Document results, including cord-connected equipment documentation, tagging records and filling out incident report forms

This test and tag course in Brisbane offers a perfect balance of theory and application so that professionals across a wide range of industries hone the practical skills required to succeed in testing and tagging.

After the course’s completion, you will get a statement of attainment (SOA) proving you have completed the units and excelled in your learning. However, gaining a full qualification to test and tag in Queensland entails an application to the Electrical Safety Office (ESO) for a restricted electrical licence (applies to electrical testing and tagging work only). Only then will you step into the role of a test and tag professional.

What's INCLUDED:

How to safely access a work area and comply with regulated working procedures.

All the preparation needed to test electrical appliances, electrical cords, and cord assemblies.

How to properly document tag-outs of defective equipment.

How to recognise potential electrical and non-electrical hazards, complete several practical assessment tasks, and comply with precise manual handling techniques during testing.

Observing workplace procedures for hazard detection, risk assessment, and risk control.

Proper utilisation of a portable appliance tester (PAT) and familiarity with tagging requirements.

Understand and practice methods for recording test and tag activities, such as reporting and everything to do with workplace compliance requirements as per Australian Standards.

Entry Requirements

This course has no entry requirements. However, students must have a Unique Student Identifier, demonstrate basic numeracy skills, and be physically capable of performing assessment tasks.

Test and Tag Brisbane Career Pathways

A test and tag course is designed to help participants become skilled in inspecting, testing, and tagging equipment in accordance with Australian Standards. The program equips you with the knowledge and practical experience to work with portable electrical equipment, helping you gain proficiency in identifying faults, applying safe work practices, and understanding electrical safety principles until they become second nature.

If you live or work in Brisbane, the test and tag training offered at Major Training can help you kickstart a new career or enhance your existing role with valuable new knowledge and skills, including electrical safety practices, fault identification, and equipment maintenance. These skills are in high demand across industries where regular testing and tagging is essential for managing risks and meeting safety compliance requirements.

Possible Roles

Electrical Safety Technician: Brisbane is home to a wide range of businesses, commercial properties, schools, and healthcare facilities that require visual inspections, electrical testing, and tagging procedures to comply with safety regulations and minimise electrical hazards. This is where your test and tag training comes in.

Mining and Resources Compliance Officer: Queensland’s economy is driven by industries such as mining, agriculture, tourism, and financial services, with mining being the largest. Completing a test and tag course can open up opportunities in the mining and resources sector, where your skills can help ensure electrical equipment remains safe and compliant.

Safety Consultant: Safety consultants with test and tag qualifications provide expert advice to businesses on electrical safety practices, helping them set up protocols, perform safety audits, and maintain a safe working environment. In Brisbane, the largest industries are healthcare, professional services, and retail trade. With your Test and Tag training, you can build a career supporting these sectors as a safety professional, helping ensure compliance and workplace safety.

Construction Site Safety Officer: Brisbane's construction industry is booming, with major building projects underway in preparation for the 2032 Olympics. A test and tag course can definitely come in handy to support electrical safety compliance on the growing construction projects, ensuring tools and equipment are regularly tested and tagged to meet workplace safety requirements.

Facilities Maintenance Technician: Safety is essential across all types of workplaces and facilities. With comprehensive test and tag training, you can inspect and test electrical equipment in offices, retail centres, hospitals, schools, and industrial sites throughout the Brisbane region.

Compliance Officer: Workplace safety is a serious responsibility that must be handled with care. That’s why compliance officers play a pivotal role in ensuring safety standards are met by overseeing that electrical appliances are tested, tagged, and maintained in accordance with legal requirements. Healthcare, financial services, construction and mining, energy and utilities, manufacturing, and education are among the industries that rely most heavily on compliance officers, and Brisbane is home to all of these key sectors.

Potential wages could be in the region of $50,000 to $60,000 per year

Awesome!! After coming from TAFE the training is so much better.
Awesome!! After coming from TAFE the training is so much better. Smaller classes better and more knowledgeable teachers who care about the students and more flexible learning (being able to do most of the work from home). TAFE felt like it was just there to keep apprentices there for as long as possible (spending 8 hours to do 2 hours of work) but here it’s all based around the student, come in for the morning to to finish up units then go back to work for the rest of the day.

I recently completed my Certificate III (online) through Major Training Group, and I had a wonderful experience.

My educator, Cathy Fendley, was absolutely fabulous. We had agreed-upon sessions once a week (and sometimes twice a week when needed), and she was always supportive, organised, and encouraging. Cathy helped me tremendously, especially with my case studies, making sure I fully understood the requirements and felt confident in my work.

She also went above and beyond by helping me find a placement closer to my location, which made a big difference for me. During my placement, she visited and gave me such a great morale boost — her support truly meant a lot.

I’m very grateful to have had Cathy as my teacher. She is a wonderful educator and a genuinely caring person. Highly recommend Major Training Group!

I had a fantastic experience with Major Training. Katrina was my trainer for both my EWP and Forklift courses, and she was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable, patient, and supportive. She explains everything clearly and makes sure everyone feels confident and safe.
I also want to mention Thane. Even though he wasn’t my trainer, he was very friendly and always willing to help.
Great team, professional training, and a very welcoming environment. Highly recommended definitely more than 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Highly recommend this RTO! The trainers are extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and always happy to help whenever you need support. They genuinely care about your learning and make sure you understand the material, not just pass the course.

They also create a great environment with things like regular BBQs, which makes it a welcoming and supportive place to study. It’s clear they put real effort into looking after their students and building a strong community.

If you’re considering training here, you won’t regret it.

Highly recommend Major training. I cannot express how much it was a pleasure to be educated and trained by my highly experienced assessor CARL BERRY for helping me complete my C6 Crane ticket. It's alot of theory work and alot of maths and also practical about the Crane as I've had no experience. Carl Berry gave not just me but the other pupils in the classroom the time and the patience to help us to complete and accomplish this course. I'm not gonna lie it is very hard but with the right training studying and perseverance it was all well worth it. Thank you so much Carl for all your hard work and keep it mate. I really do appreciate what you have done for me. And last but not least thank you Major training for having me as a student at your facility.

After failing my first test due to nerves, I was feeling pretty discouraged. However, Paul’s patience, understanding, and encouragement made all the difference.

He took the time to go over everything thoroughly, helping me rebuild my confidence and fine-tune my skills. His calm demeanor helped ease my anxiety. Thanks to Paul’s support, I was able to pass my test.
