Course Details
An excavator ticket is a nationally recognised unit of competency that allows you to operate an excavator on active construction sites and civil projects. Completing this excavator course also opens opportunities in the civil construction plant operations field.
Our excavator training course covers:
- Machine pre operational checks
- Planning and preparing for excavator operations
- Working to site safety standards and safety regulations

Entry Requirements
To enrol in this excavator course, students must:
- Be able to read and write basic English
- Pass a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment (LLN)
- Be mechanically minded with an interest in operating heavy machinery
- Be a minimum of 16 years of age
- Provide two forms of identification
- Wear steel-capped or safety boots on site. Sun protection is also recommended (hat, long sleeves, and pants)

Three-Day Backhoe Course
Duration: 2 days training, 1 day assessment
Time: 6.30am to 3pm
This course is an intensive professional excavator operator training program based on competency and delivered in a controlled environment at Major Training’s high-quality simulated worksites.
The course offers:
- Everything you need to earn your excavator ticket from start to finish
- Three days of intense, competency-based training and assessment delivered by our knowledgeable team
- Intensive theoretical and practical training conducted in our classroom facilities over two days. The theory will be presented through videos, live demonstrations, and clear instructions by experienced trainers.
- One day of practical assessment at our facility where you will operate an excavator.
- A practical skills logbook for you to record your experiences during the course
- Courses run Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday from 6:30 am until 3.00 pm.
Students are trained to a level suitable to achieve all elements of the excavator competency. We offer exceptional trainers and assessors and quality training materials, including a logbook, training plan, full assessment, training manual, and heavy machinery for you to operate.
