How to Become a Trainer at Major Training Group

Have you always been interested in a career as an industry trainer and assessor for a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) but not quite sure how to make it happen or where to start?

Becoming a certified trainer and assessor is a process that requires dedication and commitment, however it is a role that can open doors to new opportunities for professional growth. In this article we provide you with everything you need to know about becoming a trainer and why it might be the rewarding career change you have been searching for.

Many of our team here at Major have fallen into their positions as trainers through a natural career progression. With many years of experience in their field under their belts, it has either been because of an injury which hasn’t allowed them to perform their normal workplace duties on the tools or has been a natural aptitude for guiding and teaching which has led them to where they are in front of a class.

In Australia, to be qualified as a trainer or assessor in the vocational or registered training sector, you must hold the current qualification equivalent you will be teaching and delivering, along with a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Other skills required to land a position as a trainer with us at Major, is proven experience and a natural ability to work autonomously. This is essential due to the work environment being very conditional and the flexible training model in which we offer our students. You need to possess a natural ability to be dynamic and to be able to pivot quickly and efficiently as every student will absorb information differently and will pick up skills at varying paces.

However, experience will always be the selling point on any resume. At Major, we look for proven experience across your field, as our students are relying on you to pass on critical information and teach the necessary skills for them to pass their qualifications and graduate with confidence.
