Riviera Australia, the nation’s leading luxury yacht builder, opened “The Academy of Excellence” in Coomera to foster the next generation of skilled craftsmen. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to train large volumes of apprentices annually, supporting various departments and trades critical to the yacht building industry. Riviera selected Major Training Group as their chosen Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to deliver training programs geared towards the marine industry.

Obstacle: Riviera’s commitment to producing top-tier luxury yachts necessitated the development of a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the growing demand for craftsmanship and innovation in the luxury marine industry. The company needed an RTO that could provide specialised training for apprentices, ensuring they gained expertise in the hands-on skills and advanced technology required in yacht building.

Solution: Major Training Group collaborated with Riviera Australia to design bespoke marine-focused training streams and qualifications for apprentices. The training was delivered in the academy’s cutting-edge workshops, designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience:

State-of-the-Art Facilities: Training was conducted in two large workshops equipped with top-of-the-line tools, a drafting room, and modern learning spaces, offering a conducive environment for skill development.

Outcome: This partnership between Major Training Group and Riviera Australia saw a prestigious finals nomination in the 2024 Queensland Training Awards in the category of Premiers Industry Collaboration of the Year.  This collaborations main focus has been met with a strong foundation for producing highly skilled craftsmen in the luxury marine industry. The academy now trains a steady stream of apprentices each year, strengthening Riviera’s position as a leader in yacht building. The program not only enhances the apprentices’ skillsets but also supports the growth of the local workforce and bolsters the long-term sustainability of the Australian luxury yacht industry.
