OVERVIEW
The Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade from Major Training is designed to for to cover the skills and knowledge required to work as an Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical within metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries or other industries where Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical work.
The qualification has been specifically developed for apprentices in the above trade. The qualification packaging has been developed on an assumption that competency will be developed through a combination of on and off-the-job learning strategies such as those delivered through a formal apprenticeship. The qualification may also be achieved through formal skills recognition assessment processes.

Course Details
The Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade specifies the competencies required for employment as an Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical including the design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification.
While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, for an apprentice pathway the learner must be employed full time or part time and have access to a workplace to be able to gain sufficient experience to successfully complete the Unit of Competency requirements.
People entering the workforce to undertake an Apprenticeship in the construction sector , they may have minimal or some prior skills or Statements of Attainment which may be recognised through our recognition process. Delivered through SRTO requirements including development of a Training Plan, Employer Resource Assessment and completion of a Training Record
Career Start Program – Free Apprenticeships for under 25’s Initiative
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program you must:
- Be aged under 25 years prior to entering into a training contract (commencing or recommencing) for this qualification.
- Are currently employed as a Queensland apprentice (under a registered training contract) in an eligible apprenticeshipqualification through this Program, such as this qualification.
- Be no longer enrolled at school.
- Commence or recommence this apprenticeship between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2027.
- Not currently be enrolled in a qualification.
- Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships within a 10-year period.

An apprenticeship combines paid work with structured training, allowing individuals to gain a nationally recognised qualification while gaining practical, on-the-job experience. A Training Contract between the apprentice and employer must be in place for the apprenticeship to proceed.

From beginning to end, we support students and employers in completing the their apprenticeship as smoothly as possible. Our industry-current trainers will customise Apprentice Training Plans with students and employers in person. This helps employers properly plan for the training and keeps the apprentice on track.
At Major Training, we also:
- Train theory and practical skills onsite with your apprentice
- Help employers train their apprentice on the job (to workplace requirements)
- Provide education and coaching to employers around the supervision ratio and requirements
- Offer support to employers for performance management of apprentices as required
