The CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services across residential, home or community-based environments.
This qualification is ideal for aged care workers looking to build confidence, formalise their skills or progress into more senior support roles.
Students will develop skills in individualised service planning, supporting older people with complex needs, dementia care, palliative care, legal and ethical compliance, communication, safety and working with families, carers and support networks.
Workers at this level may take responsibility for their own work outcomes and may demonstrate leadership within defined workplace guidelines.
Course Details
The aged care sector needs skilled, compassionate and capable workers who can support older people with dignity, respect and confidence.
This qualification builds on existing care and support skills and helps students develop the knowledge required to work more independently, contribute to care planning and support quality outcomes for older people.
Students will learn how to support older people’s rights, interests, independence, health and wellbeing while working safely and ethically within an aged care setting.
To achieve this qualification, students must complete 18 units of competency, including 15 core units and 3 elective units. Students must also complete at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the assessment requirements.
Work Placement / Workplace Requirements
Students must complete at least 120 hours of work as part of the qualification requirements.
Students already working in aged care may be able to use their current workplace to support assessment requirements, where suitable. Students not currently working in the sector may need access to an appropriate aged care, home care or community care environment to complete workplace-based assessment tasks.
Workplace requirements may include access to clients, workplace policies and procedures, supervisor support and relevant documentation.
