The CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support reflects the role of workers who provide support to people with disability across community settings and people’s homes.
This qualification is ideal for disability support workers looking to build confidence, formalise their skills or progress into more senior support roles.
Students will develop skills in person-centred support, positive behaviour support, community participation, supporting people with complex needs, mental health support, legal and ethical compliance, workplace health and safety and contributing to individualised support planning.
Workers at this level may work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise or coordinate a small team.
Course Details
The disability support sector needs skilled, compassionate and capable workers who can support people with disability to achieve greater independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing.
This qualification builds on existing disability support skills and helps students develop the knowledge required to work more independently, contribute to support planning and deliver quality person-centred services.
Students will learn how to empower people with disability, support choice and control, promote inclusion and work safely and ethically within disability support settings.
To achieve this qualification, students must complete 10 units of competency, including 7 core units and 3 elective units.
Workplace Requirements
Students will need access to a suitable disability support workplace or community setting to complete practical assessment requirements.
Students already working in disability support may be able to use their current workplace to support assessment requirements, where suitable. Students not currently working in the sector may need access to an appropriate disability support, community support or home-based support environment to complete workplace-based assessment tasks.
Workplace requirements may include access to people receiving support, workplace policies and procedures, supervisor support and relevant documentation.
