Course Details
The RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction specifies the competencies required for employment as a skilled operator working with civil construction, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory, and certification requirements that apply to this civil construction course can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to the application of the qualification.
While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, for a trainee pathway, the learner must be employed full-time or part-time and have access to a workplace to be able to gain sufficient experience to successfully complete the Unit of Competency requirements.
People entering the workforce to undertake an apprenticeship in the construction sector may have minimal or some prior skills or Statements of Attainment which may be recognised through our recognition process. Delivered through SRTO requirements including the development of a Training Plan, Employer Resource Assessment, and completion of a Training Record.
In addition, there are government-subsidised funding programs and school-based apprenticeships across Queensland and New South Wales. These are created to support individuals facing financial constraints, allowing them to focus on their professional development without the added worry of expenses.
For Cert 3 in Civil Construction, funding options like Career Start and the EAT program (NSW only) substantially reduce or remove the out-of-pocket tuition fees associated with training.
Career Start Program – Free Apprenticeships for under 25’s Initiative
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program you must:
- Be aged under 25 years prior to entering into a training contract (commencing or recommencing) for this qualification.
- Are currently employed as a Queensland apprentice (under a registered training contract) in an eligible apprenticeship qualification through this Program, such as this qualification.
- Be no longer enrolled at school.
- Commence or recommence this apprenticeship between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2027.
- Not currently enrolled in a qualification.
- Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships within a 10-year period.

What You'll Learn
Entry Requirements
There are no formal requirements to enrol in Cert 3 in Civil Construction, except for the following basic entry requirements:
- CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, commonly known as the white card, as specified by Safe Work Australia’s model Code of Practice: Construction Work.
- Be able to read and write basic English (Workplace Health and Safety requirement)
- Pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN)
- Recommended benchmark levels are 3 in English and Maths
- Provide relevant identification
- Must be employed full-time or part-time and have access to a workplace if doing the trainee pathway

We’re a registered training organisation offering a structured Cert 3 Civil Construction course, allowing you to develop the skills and practical experience needed to work safely and confidently across civil construction projects.
An apprenticeship combines paid work with structured training, allowing individuals to gain a nationally recognised qualification while gaining practical, on-the-job experience. A Training Contract between the apprentice and employer must be in place for the apprenticeship to proceed.
