OVERVIEW
Builders, construction workers, electricians, plumbers, heating engineers, and gas technicians are often required to navigate tight spaces as part of their job. If you work in one of these professions, you’ll need the right qualification to work in confined spaces. Major Training’s Confined Space program is designed for workers on the Gold Coast, offering a strong focus on practical skills and workplace safety.
To work in confined spaces, you need the nationally recognised unit of competency RIIWHS202E Enter and Work in Confined Spaces qualification. This course tackles fundamental health and safety concepts of working in small spaces, including proper personal protective equipment (PPE), gas test atmospheres and risks, emergency procedures, and confined space rescue.

Course Details
Our confined space program covers both theories and practical applications. Designed to be thorough and immersive, it ensures learners are fully equipped to work in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces maintained at atmospheric pressure during occupancy. It’s important to note that these spaces aren’t meant to be primary work sites.
After completing the course, you’ll receive a confined space ticket, allowing you to legally work within confined spaces. With an additional ticket, you can expand your duties and increase your employability. You’ll find this to be particularly relevant in the Yatala–Stapylton Enterprise Area, a major hub for warehousing, heavy manufacturing, and logistics, all of which involve large industrial storage tanks, mixing vats, silos, hoppers, and pressure vessels. Confined space training can be a valuable qualification in this area alone.
The ongoing Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 connecting Broadbeach South to Burleigh Heads is another large-scale civil transport project that will likely require workers to enter confined spaces while setting up infrastructure. Entry Requirements
- Be able to read and write basic English (Workplace Health and Safety requirement)
- Pass a language, literacy and numeracy assessment (LLN)
- Minimum 18 years of age (Workplace Health and Safety requirement)
- Provide two forms of identification
- Wear steel-capped or safety boots on site
- Sun protection is also recommended (e.g. hat, long-sleeved shirt and pants).
