OVERVIEW
A safety observer, or spotter, is a worker positioned with a clear line of sight who communicates directly with the plant operator from the ground. By identifying surrounding hazards or obstacles, a spotter plays a key role in reducing the risk of collisions. They also assist in emergencies by raising the alarm and providing support.
Spotters are essential when the operator is unable to judge distances, lacks visibility of a clear pathway, or when there are nearby structures, plant, or equipment, such as power lines and overhead structures, that pose a risk during work operations.

- Pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN)
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Provide relevant identification
- Wear covered shoes or boots and a hat during training
