BUILDHER: Her Future, Her Career. A Collaborative Day of Celebrating Female Talent in Construction.
On August 23rd, 2024, we proudly hosted the first-ever Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) BUILDHER event at our Major Training Group site in Cairns. This event was dedicated to empowering young women to explore careers in construction and related industries.
A year in the making, this program was a collaborative effort of many industry partners and contributors who were able to pull this incredible day together seamlessly, sharing the vision for a more inclusive industry.

A Day of Hands-On Learning
Female students from Gordonvale, Cairns, Smithfield, and Redlynch gathered at our Major Training Group Cairns campus to participate in a series of activities designed to spark their interest in construction and engineering. With support from CSQ, Mark Fletcher Solid Plaster and Texture Coatings, Bestruct, and others, the students engaged in practical tasks like rendering, surveying, project management, and even catapult engineering.
This event was more than just a day of fun; it was a hands-on learning experience that showcased the diverse career opportunities within the construction industry. Each student group rotated through five different activities, giving them a comprehensive look at what a career in construction could offer.
A Memorable Event
The day began with a warm welcome and an overview of the activities ahead, followed by the five rounds of activities. Morning tea, provided by BUSY At Work, and a lunch break, courtesy of CSQ, offered students a chance to recharge and connect with industry professionals. Transportation was smoothly managed, with buses arranged for students from Gordonvale, Smithfield, and Redlynch, ensuring everyone arrived safely and on time.
The energy and enthusiasm were palpable throughout the day, and our first ever BUILDHER day truly served as a stepping stone toward a future where women play an even greater role in shaping the world of construction.
BUILDHER day 2024 was not just a success; it set the stage for future events that will continue to empower and inspire young women to pursue careers in construction. We look forward to building on this momentum with our partners and hope that this progressive program is the first of many more to come of its kind.
