There’s a certain kind of confidence that comes from growing up surrounded by engines, grease, and machinery.
For Corrine, that confidence was forged right alongside her family, in backyards and sheds pulling things apart and putting them back together.
“My whole family have a trade, my dad, my brothers and my cousins, so I grew up around tools and cars,” Corrine said.
Corrine has recently started an apprenticeship with Liebherr, a company that provides full‑lifecycle service and support for mining and construction machinery.
Part of her apprenticeship involves undertaking a Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology (AUR31220) with Major Training, where Corrine has the flexibility to learn onsite and at Major Training’s education facility.

“The training is really flexible and self-paced, which I like.
“If you don’t understand something, the trainers will explain it a different way until it clicks.
“Sometimes the written assessments don’t click straight away, but then you go out on site and someone shows you in real life, and suddenly it all makes sense,” she said.
With a grin and a competitive edge, she’s taking on the Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology developing the skills needed to repair and maintain mechanical components across a broad range of mobile plant machinery used in mining and civil construction.
“My favourite machine to work on would definitely be the Liebherr 9800, it’s our biggest digger.
“I’ve mostly worked on engines so far, but I love the diggers,” she said.
As a woman in a male‑dominated industry, Corrine hopes to inspire others to back themselves and follow the same path.
“I will be the first girl in my family to have a trade so I can keep up with the boys now,” she joked.
While others might shy away from hydraulic systems or heavy equipment, Corrine leans in and at Major Training she is part of a learning environment that feels more like a working workshop than a classroom.

One of her trainer’s Jeff moves between the teams, offering guidance grounded in real industry experience.
“Jeff’s a great teacher, I love learning from him.
“We start with videos to get an idea of what we’re doing, then we’re out on the machines.
“He explains everything, lets us have a go, and gives us that freedom to learn hands-on,” she said.
Now in her final year, Corrine hopes to save some money and buy a house.
With a solid trade behind her and a clear path ahead, Corrine is building a future shaped by hard work, hands‑on learning and the confidence to take on whatever comes next.
