“I Got Brushed” Making Waves While Re-Painting Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club

Embarking on a journey to revitalise not just walls but also lives, “I Got Brushed” is a unique program we are proud of here at Major Training.

Partnering with MEGT to provide a full scope of trainee and apprenticeship support, and under the experienced supervision of The Aussie Painters Network, an enthusiastic cohort of 7 participants are undertaking the 18-week course.

Along with theoretical work, they are tackling the arduous task of re-painting the iconic Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club whilst gaining their nationally recognised CPC10120 – Certificate I in Construction, along with valuable life skills and experience to kick start their careers.

The program offers more than just a crash course in wielding a paintbrush. Participants are introduced to various aspects of painting and decorating, from color theory to surface preparation. Seasoned mentors are guiding students through the intricacies of the craft, ensuring that they graduate with not only with a fresh set of skills but also with a newfound confidence to tackle any canvas, be it a wall or a career opportunity.

The program has fostered a sense of community collaboration, with Dulux generously donating the paint for this project, in the iconic signature green hues of Currumbin Beach Vikings club house colors.

The feedback from this program has been incredibly positive, with project manager, Nigel Gorman, from the Aussie Painters Network, explaining that these participants are even turning up to site early, eager to get stuck into the project each day, showing immense pride for their contribution. Watch our full chat with Nigel Gorman below.

The program has supported participants in not only learning the skills they will use in a workplace, but also practical life skills such as time management, personal presentation and resume development. After speaking with two of the students, Lenni and Jorden, it is evident they are thriving, with the majority of the cohort looking to secure an apprenticeship upon completion. Watch our chat below with students, Lenni and Jorden and be sure to share this page in the hopes of inspiring others to follow suit.
