Get Your Heavy Vehicle Licence
If you plan on driving trucks across the country, the first thing you’ll need to obtain is your heavy vehicle licence. There are five different categories of licence to choose from:
Each licence type will allow you to legally drive and control a variety of vehicles used in the transport industry and directly correlate to your employability. For example, a heavy rigid licence will allow you to operate a bus or vehicle with over eight tonne Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) with three or more axles. You will need to hold your class C (car) licence for at least one year before you can apply for an LR or MR licence and at least two years before going for a HR licence.
