Major Training Group Launches Innovative “Maritime Ready Program” in partnership with NORSTA Maritime to Bolster the Local Cairns Economy.
Major Training Group is thrilled to announce the launch of its new partnership pilot program with NORSTA Maritime, the Maritime Ready Program. This initiative is set to support the sustainment and maintenance of the growing needs of the marine fleet whom are sustained and maintained by NORSTA, including the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Fleet.
This partnership was conceptualised off the back of the expanding needs NORSTA Maritime has as the regional maintenance provider to deliver the Regional Maintenance Centre North East in Cairns, coordinating, scheduling and managing maintenance activities for the RAN under a five-year, $70 million contract.
The Maritime Ready Program aims to address the need for comprehensive training and development opportunities for individuals in the maritime industry, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified professionals to sustain naval operation fleets and beyond with the ongoing support of Workforce Australia Local Jobs, which is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
Key Highlights of the Maritime Ready Program:
The Maritime Ready Program offers a custom designed 8-week program for 12-15 participants seeking full time work in the Maritime industry.
This program will prepare candidates for entry level work in painting and blasting, fitting and fabrication as the areas of work most in demand in the Cairns maritime industries.
This program has been designed by local industry to meet the entry level requirements of maritime businesses in Cairns. It incorporates White Card, Working at Heights, Confined Space, First Aid, CPR and Issue Work Permits training along with introductory elements (taster) based on accredited modules Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication and Certificate III Marine Craft Construction. Major Training and Dawson’s are the trusted organisations who will share delivery according to their expertise and knowledge of working within the Maritime sector.
Strategic Partnership:
Major Training Group and NORSTA Maritime have joined forces to deliver a top-tier training program designed to meet the specific needs of the RAN’s regional maintenance centers. This collaboration leverages NORSTA Maritime’s extensive experience in naval vessel maintenance and Major Training Group’s expertise in vocational training.
The initiative is expected to create numerous job opportunities in the Cairns maritime precinct. The program will further boost the local economy by developing a regional sovereign sustainment capability and promoting Australian industry involvement.
