Vocational Training In Schools a Success for Community!

Empowering the Next Generation: Major Training Group’s Impact on VETiS Education

In an ever-evolving job market, the demand for adequately skilled professionals is higher than ever. Major Training Group has risen to the occasion, bridging the gap between traditional education and industry needs through delivering Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) programs proudly funded by the Queensland Government and facilitated through the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.

With a commitment to equipping the next generation with both soft and hard skills, Major Training has successfully trained thousands of VETiS students to date, setting them on a trajectory to career success and giving them a tool belt of valuable skills before they leave High School.

The Importance of VETiS Education

Vocational Education and Training in Schools is not just about imparting specific job-related skills. It’s about providing a comprehensive education that prepares students for the realities of the workforce. Major Trainings VETiS programs are designed to help students build a solid foundation of technical abilities and essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. This holistic approach ensures that graduates are not only job-ready but also equipped to adapt and thrive in various professional environments.

Building Career Pathways

One of the key advantages of VETiS programs is the early career exposure they offer. By participating in these programs, students gain practical experience and industry insights that give them a competitive edge. The VETiS program covers training fees for VET courses that are aligned to jobs and skills in demand, putting secondary school students on a path to employment and further VET opportunities. In this way, the VETiS program aligns with successful programs such as Gateway to Industry Schools program, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, and Trade Tasters—programs that also focus on supporting students onto employment pathways.

Success Stories and Industry Collaborations

Major Training has collaborated with several notable organisations to deliver exceptional VETiS programs. For instance, partnerships with industry giants like Anglo American. Through a visionary pilot program, Major Training teamed up with Moranbah State High School and Anglo American to offer local high school students a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in the mining sector and secure future employment in one of Australia’s most vital industries. This pilot program had a 100% graduation success rate, with all 19 participants reaching completion.

Through this collaboration, students have had the chance to engage with industry experts, participate in hands-on projects, and understand the inner workings of the mining sector. This program has captured local talent and aims to bridge the gap between traditional classroom learning and the dynamic demands of the mining industry.

“In supporting this electrotechnology program, we are reinforcing our commitment to local jobs and community development.” Said Paul Stephan, manager of Moranbah’s North Mine.

Another stand out good news story has come from one of our VETiS students in Cairns, Valentino (Tino). Tino was at risk of failure while at school in year 10 due to his disengagement with the generic schooling model. Tino was introduced to one of our trainers, Luke Kelly, whom delivers our Certificate I in Construction to VETiS students.

Luke recalls when Tino first started in his class he would express things like “I can’t do this, I’m not smart enough”, however, after some guidance, Tino started working through some of the math’s components and began to believe in his abilities. He soon started to excel in this program and gained accolades from those witnessing the change in his behavior.

“The collaboration between stakeholders has been pivotal in achieving this outcome, which will now progress to a full-time apprenticeship. A fantastic progression from a VETiS course, for a student who was definitely at risk of not completing year 12,” transition Pathways Officer from Redlynch State College, Rebecca Meyers, told us.

Major Training Group’s commitment to providing essential VETiS education is shaping the future workforce. By equipping students with the necessary skills and experiences before they graduate, Major Training is not only accelerating their career paths but also contributing to the overall growth and development of various industries.
