What is the VET in Schools Program?

VET in Schools is an initiative funded by the Queensland Government. It allows eligible year 10, 11 and 12 students to undertake vocational training fee-free while they’re at school.

This training is directly related to work to help students obtain the qualifications they need to work in a specific job.

In Queensland, VET in Schools is funded by:

Training (Annual VET investment budget) – This budget provides funding to any RTO that is approved by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training as a prequalified supplier (PQS).

Ask your guidance/career officer, vocational education coordinator or Head of Senior School about the options available to you.

The Queensland Government provides more helpful information about VET in Schools here.

How does VET in Schools work?

VETiS programs normally involve training one day a week and can either take one semester or two semesters to complete, depending on the qualification.

Major Training’s VETiS programs involve a detailed training plan developed in conjunction with the school. They provide students with appropriate work placements and training. Upon successful completion of a VETiS program, students will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainments and Certificates.
