Rising SUNS Graduates Kicking Training Goals

Kick off for the SUNS Regional Graduate program commenced on the 8th of May in Cairns. This exciting program was developed to equip 15-19 year old AFL players with the applicable tools to achieve success on and off the field, using sport as a pathway into kick starting a career.

The focus of this immersive program is to transition participants into the workforce or further training by providing personalised education combining athletic and career-focused opportunities and outcomes.

Students can expect an active, fun and rewarding experience during the season long program. The majority of the activities on offer are based at Caxaly’s Stadium and facilitated by AFL Cairns with support from Major Training and the Gold Coast SUNS. This training is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

Not only are these motivated rising sport stars gaining experience in coaching and sports development, they are being offered the opportunity to upskill with two skillset packages which they can choose from.

The young athletes can choose from either the hospitality skill set, learning new skills in the area of barista and food hygiene, responsible service of alcohol and first aid. Or a second training bundle option of obtaining a jobsite skill set with a white card, work safely at heights and a first aid certificate.

Major Training is proud to deliver the training to support this program and be influential in supercharging these young athlete’s resumes upon completion, offering them a ‘spectacular mark’ above the rest.
